Martin Luther King Jr. Day Observance Event

January 19, 2025
1:00 pm - 3:00 pm

In observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Oseh Shalom is a co-sponsor of the 8th annual movie screening, panel, and talkback organized by the Synagogue Social Justice Roundtable and held this year at Baltimore Hebrew Congregation, 7401 Park Heights Avenue, Baltimore on Sunday, January 19 at 1 pm. This year’s event will feature the film “At the River I Stand” (1993) about the 1968 sanitation worker’s strike that brought MLK and the Poor People’s Campaign to Memphis, Tennessee. It explores the intersections between economic justice and civil rights during the massive mobilization effort that gained national support. The movie screening will be followed by a panel featuring Linnell Fall, Tri-Chair of the Maryland Poor People’s Campaign; Dr. Kevin Slayton, Campaign Manager with the Maryland Center for Economic Policy; and Courtney Jenkins, President of the Metropolitan Baltimore Council AFL-CIO. Join us to explore Dr. King’s enduring legacy on economic justice issues and what lessons we can apply to current campaigns in Maryland.
