Tikkun Leil Shavuot: A Joint Celebration of Torah and Cheesecake

This Erev Shavuot, on the anniversary of the Revelation of Torah on Mt. Sinai, we will stay up late into the evening studying (and shmoozing) together with our extended Reconstructionist community for this year’s celebration. 

A Joint Celebration of Torah and Cheesecake! Join Columbia Jewish Congregation, Kol HaLev, Mishkan Torah and Oseh Shalom at Mishkan Torah in Greenbelt, MD.

TIKKUN LEIL SCHEDULE: *Workshops will be led by the Rabbis and Lay Leaders.

  • 7:30pm – 8:00pm Musical Ma’ariv led by our Cantors: Cantor Yael, Cantor Steve, Cantor Linda Baer
  • 8:00pm – 9:30pm Workshop Block 1 1.5 hours teaching by Rabbi Daria 2+ other 45-minute workshops
  • 9:30pm – 10pm Cheesecake Break! (Bring your favorite cheesecake to share! Vegan and gluten-free selections also encouraged.)
  • 10pm – 10:45pm Workshop Block 2 45 minute workshops
  • 10:45pm – 11 Workshop Titles to date:
    • Rabbi Daria: “The Torah that is NOT Too Far (Deut. 30:12): From Hopeless to Hopeful, Disempowered to an Agent of Change”
    • Rabbi Michael Hess-Weber: “What If I Don’t Want to Go Where You Go? The Peril and Possibility of Jewish Stories and the Ways We Tell Them”
    • Rabbi Steve Silvern: “Why does Shavuot, Matan Torah, arrive at the end of 50 days and not on a particular day of the month, like other holidays?”
    • Rabbi Saul Oresky will be offering a Hassidic Teaching using the Mei Shiloah.

The Service and one workshop per block can be accessed virtually.
